I have been quoting a passage from a book by Vincent Tsai:
At the age of 18, you find English difficult and give up on it. At the age of 28, a great job comes up that requires you to know English, and you have to say, "I don't know English".
The more trouble you take in the early part of your life and the less you want to learn, the more likely you are to miss the people and things that make your heart sing.
Recently, I have gotten a student who has been working in Australia for many years.
Although she can communicate in English, she did not have a good foundation when she was studying in Taiwan.
Now she needs to take the IELTS in Australia
However, she can't read much English.
Now I have to help her build it up step by step.
This reminds me of the elementary school students I teach now.
Many people even started learning English in middle school.
This tutoring case made me realize once again
The importance of learning a language at a young age.
And I've also begun to realize that
Sometimes I think what I'm doing is not something impressive.
But actually I'm doing something that makes an impact on their future.
I'm going to start teaching a new class in February.
Next week, I'll be researching teaching materials and systems with the fellow teachers at that school.
It's said that children can easily memorize 300 words in a month.
I'm soo looking forward to it.
